Price comparison site Selectra puts a like-for-like combi swap at £1,800 to £3,200 in 2026, including the boiler, labour, standard flue work and removing the old boiler. Screwfix gives higher average totals of around £3,300 to £3,800, because its figures include more expensive units and jobs.
What pushes the price up
- Changing boiler type or moving it, for example from a regular boiler to a combi, adds roughly £500 to £1,200 for the extra pipework and removal of tanks.
- Labour varies by area and job, typically £500 to £1,500 on its own.
- Extras like a power flush, a magnetic filter, new radiators or smart controls.
- Bigger output boilers for larger homes cost more.
Will a new boiler save you money?
If your boiler is old and inefficient, yes. Old non-condensing boilers, common before about 2005, are often around 70% efficient or less, while modern condensing boilers convert around 85% of their gas into heat in real homes. Replacing a gas boiler with a heat pump

Getting a good price
- Get at least three quotes from Gas Safe registered engineers.
- Compare warranty lengths: many manufacturers offer 7 to 12 years when an approved installer fits the boiler.
- Check what's included, such as flue, filter, controls and disposal, so you're comparing like with like.
